Who is the King of the Jungle?!? Sinagpour la dey!!! Penalty shootout damn heart attack! Man I'll never forget this day ever... I felt more Singaporean that day than on any NDPs! The resultant sore throat was worth it! Ole ole ole ole...

What's on my Desk?

I was reading MrBrown's post on what's on his desk, and I thought it'll be a nice snapshot of what's going on in my life at that point of time... Let's start a What's on my Desk movement!

- Assorted stacks of notes, including one for my quiz on monday...
- My laptop, still at the MrBrown page, playing a ripped CD (靜茹's of course!)...
- Old disused monitor that only displays in green colour...
- Creative earphones from my spoilt Muvo, now used with my laptop... colour matches perfectly too!
- A rusty hole puncher
- Lots of post-it notes in neon green colour
- 2007 card calender, on a DSTA card holder
- A container of Cadbury Old Gold dark chocolate (only some crumbs left...), and another of various free samples of instant drinks...
- My edveNTUre water bottle
- My stationery case
- My lucky fengshui crystal
- A watch with a broken belt pin hole
- A Intel toy car from Intel's roadshow at NTU... which I still play with now and then... ;D
- My wooden stationery stand from my D & T class from Sec. 1... or 2?
- My old name tag from secondary school... now antique collector's item liao!
- A list of stuff-to-do
- Eye drops (Amo Blink-&-Clean! Cheap and good!)
- Keys, wallet, watch, spectacles and such...
- A stale pack of Dettol wet tissues, must remember to throw this away!
- Clorets breath fresheners... not much else to say!
- A box of Munchy's chocolate biscuits, my favourite!
- My plant-in-a-bottlecap sitting on a scallop sea-shell on the old monitor... my 'air-purifier' and ear to my midnight rants and curses!

Discovery (Mud-) Fest...

My ride today was a mud-fest, there wasn't a clear road longer than 10m between mud pools, and all I managed were lap times of sissy minutes and wussy seconds and a lot of pushing and walking... but at those speeds, I managed to notice more of the surroundings... I found 3 different species of pitcher plants on my trail along Upper Pierce Reservoir! These are the lower pitchers of Nepenthes Ampullaria... listed in guide books as the rarest pitcher plant in S'pore... these look so cute in a clump and they were quite tiny too...

The upper pitcher of Nepenthes Ampullaria, looks like a tea cup... and described in books as rarely seen and observed... lucky me!

This is considered the most common pitcher plant in S'pore... Nepenthes Gracilis or the Graceful Pitcher plant due to its slender shape and nice lime-green colour... True enough there were loads of them along the trail...

This giant is Nepenthes Rafflesiana, named after Sir Stanford Raffles, it's the largest pitcher plant found in S'pore and looks almost regal compared to the other two...

Stopped to give way to this quartet of inch-and-a-half giant ants crossing the trail... they won't look good squashed guts and all on my tires!

Almost forgot the colour of my bike under all the mud....

Steel bon appetit!

Steel-eating monster right out of a sci-fi movie! This tunnel-boring machine ate this Caterpillar bulldozer for afternoon tea! Now all it needs is a big-enough toothpick and a glass of Eno...

The Replacement

This was my throne in front of the tv for the past eleven years, still seems pretty fine to me despite the seat cushions being way flatter than when new and the cover being a little worn... but its big sister beside was in terrible state with exposed sponges and amazingly a broken wooden support beam within after having to survive 3 kids jumping on it... so well, it has been ordered to go, along with its sister, by the matriarch of my family... I'll have to learn to sit together with my sis and mum again when its replacement comes...

The replacement, still smelling fresh and looking clean... with firm cushions that feels so alien to all of us... it'll take awhile to re-educate our bottoms after eleven years...

The Replace-ed... lying sadly on the corridor outside awaiting doomsday while the Replacement sits proudly inside as the centre of attraction. Once treated with care and pride, now treated as a troublesome nuisance... the never-ending war between the New and the Old continues to rage... inside all of us....

Mysterious Labrador...

I was at Labrador Park yet again, during a brief few hours of clear weather before the sky water starts falling again... today I wanted to try out this 'new' function in my handphone camera that I had never bothered using before, so I fired away at this WWII machine gun bunker in history book colour heehee...

The SPI had put this obelisk as one of S'pore's 10 mythical stones/structures (Link)... I most believe that it is just a marker for the most southern point on mainland S'pore, nothing supernatural lah... although There Was this chinese family praying and putting joss-sticks in front of it while throwing flowers into the sea in front when I was there...

The obelisk surely must have had something special, cos this is the first I've seen a green moth! Somemore right at the foot of the obelisk... haha coincidence must be...

Bloody Blades from Hades

I was having kopi in the canteen, and this housefly dropped dead right on my table... yet another victim of the unfeeling steel blades of the ceiling fans... heng never drop into my kopi...

Still remember the last time, when this dragonfly dropped on TKY's bag when we were having lunch... it was only half of a dragonfly without its tail but it was still alive and clinging onto TKY's bag and it quite freaked him out... quite funny he begged me to get rid of it... sad for the insects though... must invent hazard lights for ceiling fans or something...

Yummy yummy X'mas... trees!

Want a X'mas tree recycling machine! Get a baby elephant! You'll need a new home and buddies in government to go along with it too...
Feeling lousy? Next time try chewing on a X'mas tree! Scientists say it might help...!

bLuR's-eye view

The lift has been having 'out of order' spells for the past three days, this's too much... $#~@&*%"! lift technician haha!

Man I enjoy walking, I miss the days where I used to walk to school... This is the bLuR's-eye view through my sunglasses, the sun still so fierce at 5.30 in the evening...

The sunset for the past few days has been soooo spectacular! It feels so special when I go out of the house to offer inscense in the evenings... Heaven must be somewhere in those special clouds...

Out of order *#@%&$`~$!

The next time you find one of the lifts in your apartment block out of order and every aunty and kid and uncle from seemingly every floor wanting to take the lift, before you curse the Govt or PAP or God or lightning or Sami the lift technician, think of it as a chance to possibly meet same-block neighbours whom you so coincidentally have never seen before or had never met in quite a while, as all of you must share standing space in that one remaining lift. A nice topic to start a conversation would be to curse Sami the lift technician hehe....

Seasons and Climates

I was lying in bed thinking about the lyrics in 静茹's 四季...

I was thinking, if people and their feelings were seasons, and that it's always different and changing... If we likened people to climates, then it'll mean that some people will be tropical, more summer sun than gloomy rain and no harsh winter storms... while some people would be more harsh wintery chill with warm weather periods as brief as shooting stars... What's your season?

Me? I was thinking... Maybe close to the Australian climate, swelthering summer heat when it's icy winter freeze in the Northern Hemisphere and vice versa, while also more than occasionally masked by sandstorms and forest fire smoke... Is it? Or am I smoking myself...?

It's 2007 already... wow...

Enjoying fireworks Singapore-style... with the occasional 'Huat ah!' haha! 8 minutes of sending celebratory signals to Mars and beyond... so lucky that we got this prime 'Business-class' location to watch the sky flowers with nice sea breeze and a big grass field almost all to ourselves... Hahaha to those who choped 'economy-class' space at 'prime locations' hours earlier! Anyway, Happy 2007 to everyone! Huat ah!!!

The expensive sky lighting is over in just 8 minutes, and these spotlights were put out to wean off those still yearning for sky lights but only for 5 minutes after which they too let the night darkness reclaim its stake of the nightsky...

Looking back a year... I was in the forest trail at 3pm 31st Dec 2006, and got out at 6.30pm, after which I immediately embarked on this night ride after a quick splashdown fresh-uping... which ended at 0700hrs 01 Jan 2007, 16 hrs almost-continuous butt-in-saddle time including the nightmare-rish swimming through The Crowd on Esplande bridge with bike in hand... wow and ouchhh and arrgghh... kudos to the guys and ladies who had battered their hoofs and sensitive regions along the way, don't hate cycling because of this one ride haha!
Oh man I've fallen in love with The Prata House at Thompson... everytime I'm there I never regret making the long journey...
