Fleeting sunshine ride

Saw blue sky and sunshine in the afternoon for the first time in weeks, I immediately grabbed my bike out to the trails. But in my haste I must have brought boobs instead of my usual marbles, because I discovered that I had no balls when faced with all those muddy, slippery up and downslopes, must be the severe lack of training... Instead I got to notice all the nice little details on the trail. Until the thunder and lightning stole my attention and forced me out of the forest, with me praying that my plastic-and-Styrofoam helmeted head doesn't suit the taste of lightning clouds above, waiting to cook anything that it liked...

I was wondering how the bicycle magazines manage to photograph bicycles standing up on their own, seemingly with some invisible supports... After flipping through Photoshop for Dummies, I present my very own floating bicycle photo~

Rain me crazy~

The constant rainy weather has been getting on my nerves... Every morning I'll wake up to nice blue skies only to see the storm clouds move in just as lunchtime approaches... It's depressing to see the blue skies and sunshine fade into dull grey clouds and un-abating rain. Especially so when it's been affecting my day-to-day activities... Let's listen to some nice sunshine to warm up the atmosphere~ 静茹's 三吋日光~!

Miss Froggy

Found this fabulously fat froggy on the pavement in the light rain on the way home after work... She was almost run over by a bicycle when she refused to bulge out of the way~! Was thinking of keeping her in that disused fish tank in my balcony, so I cupped her in my hands and carried her home. But after seeing her scratching at the glass trying to get out, looking at me with those eyes, making little squeaky sounds, my heart started getting soft... she belongs to the wild wild outdoors, since she grew up out there... Brought her to the patch of field downstairs, where many many frogs and toads can be heard croaking, and kissed her goodbye (french kiss...)... Disappointingly she didn't turn into a beautiful princess... Man... Enchanted really is only a fairytale~

My Char Siew Bao!

Never knew a lonkang can look this spectacular! This is a feed drain into Lower Pierce Reservior, and it looks like those white-water rapids machiam seen in New Zealand tourist brochures haha! Nice to sit on the side listening to the sounds of gushing water. When leaving the place, the transition from the ferocity of the water noise to peaceful forest sounds of crickets and birds seemed surreal, such is the contrast. Quite special~

Crashed twice at BT trail today, a record number of crashes in one day in a long long time. Really lacked exercise, been lazy these couple of weeks, lack of sleep is another excuse... my second crash was pretty spectacular! I was getting over-confident after managing to go through a twisty and rough downhill section without braking, following some techniques that I saw in a biking video, until I tried to repeat it on the next section. I hit some loose rocks while turning and got thrown over my handlebars; sprained my right hand and brazed my left arm while trying to break my fall, and banged my shin on the same rocks which downed me in the first place. Quite funny to see this aunty who saw me crash in front of her, and continued to pluck her leaves, while I laid down to groan for a couple of minutes... I limped home with this little char siew pao on my shin. Definitely not my first though... Nice to crash once in a while, it's Nature's way of showing who's the big boss~ This crash made me late for ZW's and Marshal's birthday dinner, luckily those old boys didn't get mad at all... I discovered how nice HK ice yuan yang is! Not too late at all~!

Finding Zen

Used my dad's industrial-grade degreaser to wash my bike chain and gears, it wasn't stated on the bottle that it shouldn't be used on painted surfaces, because not until I sprayed off all the gunk and the shiny bare metal became apparent among spots of any remaining black paint... well... at least my bike frame is unblemished, and my chain's really clean... sadness still~

Fishing Season 2007 - Half time report

Fishing season 2007, now on a one-month long half-time break... Next time must treat Fishing Season like In-Camp Training and IPPT, must train or else will get very tired~~

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and 崇拜...

Just one bun and one mug of Milo provided subsistence for yesterday; my dinner of plain steamed rice and stir-fried greens still came out as porridge from the other end... I can't stomach anything with even a nano particle of oil. At least the burning fever is no more...

Breakfast, lunch, and probably all other meals for today will be these four plastic cups of yoghurt. I like yoghurt, but to have it for a whole day's meal might be a little too much... But anything that'll help to shut down the porridge factory in me would be a good thing. If anything being stuck at home leaves me with plenty of quality time with 崇拜... Ces't la vie~

Ces't la vie~

Yesterday evening, I boarded the train, to Outram, with something tugging at my brain and having a porridge factory for a stomach, after having felt that way ever since lunch... amidst all that I was feeling wintery be it in air-con or on the street...

Luckily I have some colleagues on the train to distract me from all these devils of pain, and the walk to meet Mas, Wei and guys at Chinatown was made easier, with Sgt WK helping with some nonsense along the way...

During dinner I tried to eat, since what's left of my lunch had been liquefied and somewhere in the sewer on the way to Ulu Pandan... but halfway through dinner the devils managed to get reinforcements and were picking on every part of me, and cold jokes weren't helping with the shivering that I was already enjoying...

On the way home, I was leaning and resting on anything that looked solid enough, and I walked home like a frog because my joints definately didn't feel like mine... Laying on the bed, under the blanket, sweating and shivering at the same time, yet I wasn't really cursing. Because I'm finally listening to j'Adore 崇拜. Feeling sick? Ces't la vie~

The Big Unknown

I didn't know such a big pond existed just 15mins from my home... that military training area behind my estate sure is huge~... I want to explore it bit by bit... already I'm finding some remnants of old CCK villages like old street signs and old wells which machiam look like that in The Ring~

Giant and Blur sets off to explore new horizons and new trail trills... Ketam Mountain Bike Park in Ubin is a real bicycle roller coaster~! No need to wait for those IRs theme parks! Only if the boat ride was cheaper... And only if I live in the east...

Woke up on a sunny weekend morning with sore eyes again...~ After answering a phone call I tried to look at the clock beside my bed, and couldn't open my eyes... and I felt really drousy and lousy... Must be because I haven't been drinking enough water lately... There goes my plans for this week's sunday... Especially with a busy few weeks coming up...

Arts Design & Media School in NTU, been up for quite a while now but this's only the second time I'm here... Still finding it one of the nicest urban environments that I've been to... Finding closure among all the reflections on the glass and water as one sucky week draws to a close... Clarity will resume when all the dust settle... The crest of the hill is drawing closer and closer... I've laid the foundations... I will keep pushing forward... I will...

Spiritual Fulfilment

I cock-uped at work today. I was angry with myself. I was angry with "them". I sure wasn't pleased at all. It completely wrecked a whole day of good effort. My spirits were really low at the end of the day. I had to top it up with a glass of quality spirit, coupled with a double cheeseburger and some nice dark chocolates... (I'm not an alcoholic btw! It took me 3 years to get through half bottle...) Things are changing around here, time might have come for me to move on...

Some boring history~

This is a scene from The Messengers, a 1999 Japanese movie. I liked this particular quote from the flick, which quantifies what I feel drives many recreational cyclists to go out to ride week in and week out - "When I was very young, a bicycle is the only way to go to faraway places, and is able to go so so fast, it means freedom for a young kid, like as though nothing is impossible. I still feel that way..." This surely is the case for me... I grew up on a little tricycle. I learnt to cycle at the age of 5, and got my first big scar at the age of 7. By 8 I was spending whole afternoons exploring all the nooks and crannies of my neighbourhood, together with my next door neighbours, despite the worries of my mother. After a short break, at 15 I got my first mountain bike, a cheap heavy mass of steel tubes, then first rode at Bukit Timah off-road trail, and had never looked-back ever since... despite all the worries of my mum... ;D

Mid-Work Week Report~

This ceramic cup is built to withstand more than 1000°C, but try bringing it straight down to earth by drowning it in cold water while red-hot and this is what happens... I've learnt that gradients are Nature's way of preventing damage to any body~~

Carrying pieces of armour steel plates in my bag to and fro my office and my NTU lab has left me with a slightly more muscular left shoulder~~

Music in my ears

The machine's bloody noisy... that facemask's trying to suffocate me... the glare from the plasma arc's getting me tanned and the labcoat's so warm... but there's always room for music in the ears under those ear mufflers~~

10.30pm, and fish are still swimming in these faintly illuminated waters... flipping leaves around to look for food... chasing each other and sometimes leaping out of the water surface even... while I sit by the lake thinking of nothing... trying~~

I accidentally left home without deodorant, and actually felt naked as though I'm wearing a fishnet in place of a shirt... No it's not because I have BO or something... I just like to smell good...

Went CrunchyRoll-mad, and caught a couple of movies after the Swenson gathering... Man I'm in love with that 小雨 from Jay Chou's Secret *shy man*... Ok ok, this is one of those shows which will give me this heart-wrenching, intestines-churning feelings... I was glued to my computer for 2 hours no food no drink no distractions not even dinner! Now watching Helen the Baby Fox... with late late dinner in hand... =p

My Weekend

My Sunday Evening Snack

Little lizard out on the rocks braving the waves, snacking on little crabs... It had my attention for quite some while until I noticed I was getting toasted in the Labrador Park sunshine...~

Watching the little lizard snacking made me craving for my own snack too... Man I've been craving for roti prata and tea for weeks~!

I still went biking in the afternoon, soldiering on with sore eyes, squinting through half open eyes and rolling almost half-blind sometimes through mud puddles and the forest trails in the rain. Great sense of satisfaction man~!

What a beautiful morning...

It's a bright and beautiful morning... And I've plans for a saturday morning ride... I'd went to bed early last night... And I woke up with sore eyes... Shucks~!
I just knew something's gonna happen, because I haven't been drinking enough water lately... but what luck for this to happen on my only cycling morning of the week~!

West Coast Park Night Ride 200807

West Coast Park, close to revamp completion after so many years, I'd say it's quite a nice job well done, really different from that muddy beach that my grandfather brought me to nearly a couple decades ago... Yes my bike's back and my night rides can resume~~
I've been trying to think a lot recently. Especially after reading my friend W**d's blog, she's been a lot in the past month and half or so... Luckily she seems to be coping well, at least seems like better than me... I've been thinking... thinking... but my mind's heavy thinking of my projects almost everyday... what to do tomorrow... what to do later... how to do... and the month's end deadline's creeping quietly closer and closer... I miss school now haha~~

I love fireworks

Went to my 3rd fireworks show this year, the 5th one that I've been to in total, considering my first time was only in August last year. I love fireworks, even if it takes so much effort to go down early to 'chope' prime viewing space and squeezing with thousands of like-minded people, for that 10-15mins of spectacle. This lights and really-smokey show by China wasn't too bad, although I still prefered last year's S'pore Fireworks Fest's shows. The photo's by "Ski" Wei (Wei's Blog).

My decision making machinery has been going especially cranky lately, leading to too many regrettable and sometimes nonsense decisions... Something isn't too right with me... maybe it's because I breathed in too much nano-powders from my "office" plasma spray machine and it clogged up my brain... maybe I'm spending too much time with TKY aka Spiderman... maybe I need Captain Planet to help save me =p

Keep bananas in the open. Putting them in a fridge will cause spoilage. A knife can be used to cut things, but it can also cut you. I want to master the knife, but I still got cut along the way. At least there's the banana...

Empty...

It's the first time my bike isn't at home with me, ever since I got it four and half years ago... the empty space in the room is unsettling, but it really needs some tender loving care for its arthritic joints and a few days away at the shop is small sacrifice...
Many people have said many things to me in the past week; about me, about the world, about many things... It got me thinking about many many many things... I want to heck it, but can't get them out of my head either... but I know it's for my own good... But whenever free I find escapism in fixing my bike and going to peaceful quiet places...
I would like to apologise to all my friends, who called or sms-ed to me but didn't get replies or got very late replies... my phone has a camera, and my workplace doesn't allow such stuff, and I like my phone a lot and don't want to be swapping sim cards to another phone all the time, so I always would leave my phone with the guardhouse... 18 more weeks to end of attachment~! =)
